February 23, 2009 - Diba Industries has streamlined operations by implementing Lean Manufacturing, a management philosophy that helps manufacturers reduce waste and improve quality. At Diba, it has decreased lead times for the company’s custom fluid handling components and improved workflow efficiency.
The Lean Manufacturing process focuses on the reduction of seven wastes: overproduction, waiting time, transportation, processing, inventory, motion and scrap. Diba has successfully implemented its principles to eliminate waste of physical and personnel resources. With Lean Manufacturing the company can maintain high product quality while managing product manufacturing costs.
In one product manufacturing area, applying Lean Manufacturing reduced product lead time by over 75% and decreased the amount of work in progress inventory from over 1,400 hundred pieces to just under 300. It also improved the physical work process to eliminate several steps from the operations process and cut the distance traveled by production workers (measured in number of steps) in half.
